Privacy Policy

This policy describes what data the skribr.net website and the skribr Chrome extension process, and how we handle it. By using the service, you agree to the terms below.

1. Who processes the data

The operator is the skribr project (skribr.net). For any data-related questions, write to hello@skribr.net.

2. What data we process

• Video link and caption text. The website sends the video link to our server, which obtains available captions through a transcript provider. The extension may also obtain captions in the browser. The returned text is used to provide your result.
• AI processing. When you use an AI feature, transcript text is processed by our server and an LLM provider to produce the requested context or summary.
• Technical cookie skribr_free. Counts the number of free transcriptions on the site. Contains a usage counter.
• Website measurement. We record a random browser identifier, a visit identifier, the landing path without query strings, the referring hostname, campaign labels, and product events such as a completed transcript or an installation-link click. The measurement database does not store IP addresses, video URLs, transcript text, email addresses, or complete referrer URLs. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals disable this website measurement. When enabled, our server also sends a limited set of these events to PostHog for traffic, funnel, and returning-browser reports. We do not send transcript content, video links, email addresses, or visitor IP addresses to PostHog. Session recording and automatic capture of page contents are not enabled.
• Extension local storage (chrome.storage.local). Stores the free-distillation counter and panel settings — it never leaves your browser.

The transcript tool does not require an account. If you voluntarily enter an email in an early-access form, it is submitted for that request. Website measurement does not read your browsing history, passwords, payment details, or private correspondence.

3. AI processing by a third-party provider

For the AI features (“AI transcript” and “Summary”), the transcript text is processed via a third-party LLM provider. Only the transcript text is sent, with no link to your identity. The provider processes the text to generate the result and does not use it to identify the user.

4. Retention

To prevent abuse and diagnose failures, we record processing attempts, outcomes, duration, provider request counts, country and a daily keyed hash of the network address. These operational records expire after 30 days. Raw IP addresses, API keys, request headers and transcript text are not stored in these records. This essential protection also applies when optional website measurement is disabled.

Transcripts and distillation results are processed in transit and are not stored by us on a permanent basis. Any cache is temporary and serves only to speed up responses.

The random measurement browser identifier expires after 30 days. Visit information is stored in session storage and a new visit begins after 30 minutes of inactivity. Measurement records are retained for up to 90 days and cleaned up when new visits are processed. Clearing your browser storage removes its local identifiers.

5. Sharing with third parties

We do not sell your data and do not share it for advertising or other purposes unrelated to the service. Providers for hosting, transcript retrieval, storage, and AI processing receive the information needed to operate those parts of the service. Website measurement is stored with the current hosting service.

6. Your rights (152-FZ)

Processing is based on your consent, expressed by using the service. You have the right to request access to your data, its correction or deletion, and to withdraw consent — write to hello@skribr.net.

7. Children

The service is not intended for children under 13.

8. Changes

We may update this policy. The current date is shown at the top of the page; we will try to flag material changes more prominently.

skribr is an independent tool and is not affiliated with YouTube or Google. Names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
